Why Entrapta Is Autistic (An Infodump By An Autistic Person)

1. Special interests/infodumping

This is easily the most obvious of all autistic traits to pin down in Entrapta. She adores technology, often changing the subject to her work and getting excited when talking about it.

She also infodumps! A lot. Even when people are visibly confused or even bored, she will continue to talk about technology, being very, very happy and enthusiastic; even while in extremely dangerous situations.

Example: Rather than actually helping Adora while she is infected by a virus, Entrapta wants to dissect her to learn about the virus (which may also show the lack of empathy also commonly found in autistic folk.)

2. Misunderstanding social cues

Obviously, that last example was a big showing of exactly how oblivious Entrapta is to social situations. She’s often portrayed as unrelentingly loud and cheerful, even in awkward or dangerous situations.

Another example of this can be her being captured by Catra, where she kept on going back to her confines, even after she can escape; because that’s what she believes to be the “correct” action to take in this social situation.

She can also come across as creepy but, clearly, is very sweet, which is something I see a lot in autistic folks. (Girls, in particular!)

Also; maybe she wears those goggles so often because she has trouble with eye contact? Just saying.

3. Black and white views (and more on special interests)

Autistic people tend to have a very black and white view on the world, and can be rather stubborn. And while Entrapta shows her stubborn, blind loyalty while being interrogated by Catra, as soon as she realizes her friends aren’t coming back…

Her black and white view changes, and she shows almost no remorse for helping people who she previously thought were horrible.

Also; notice how Entrapta acts when Catra asks about technology. Saying things like, “Nobody EVER asks about my theories!” with great enthusiasm; the first time she is happy about joining their side. Not only is Entrapta joining because she thinks the princesses don’t care, but she’s joining because the horde can give her what the princesses couldn’t; support towards and resources for her special interests.

4. Possible sensory issues

This doesn’t happen all the time, admittedly; however, I did notice how often Entrapta uses her hair rather than her actual body for things involving physical contact.

Also; her obsession with tiny foods sure seems like a sensory issue. Lots of autistic folks only eat a specific type of food, or refuse to eat a certain type. For me, I refuse to eat things that are lumpy (like oatmeal and applesauce). Maybe, for Entrapta, it’s that she won’t eat anything too big.

5. Stimming

Honestly? This might be even easier to convince you of than special interests. The scene that sealed in my mind that Entrapta is 100%, without a doubt autistic:

I do that spinny chair thing all the time when I’m talking to my friends about my special interests. And, though it doesn’t say, she’s talking into that recorder about technology. Just look at that GIF and tell me that it’s not an autistic person happy-stimming as she’s infodumping about her special interest.

Slightly less obvious is her hand and hair motions while talking. She does a LOT of stuff with her arms and hair; obvious stimming, if you ask me!

And finally…

6. Because I’m autistic and I said so.

Dear people planning to move to pillowfort:

As someone not involved in the development of pillowfort but am a web developer, I think you should lower your expectations, but not for the reason you think.

Pillowfort is a baby. A newborn. A smol bab. If you were here during the early days of Tumblr, think of that.

Pillowfort simply cannot be the immediate solution to your woes. It needs to be nurtured and cared for to become a mature and happy adult.

If you want Pillowfort to work, they’ll need feedback, advice, bug reports, etc. This is a chance to make Pillowfort the Ao3 of Fanfiction.net. It’s not gonna happen overnight, you need to give it time and love and it’ll get there.

If you don’t want to pay money to get into the beta, that’s ok. It will be open to the public soon enough and you won’t have to pay a dime. Their financial model moving forward sounds good (a subscription fee for super extra features), but even an Ao3 model would work swell for them probably.

We’re living in an interesting time on the internet. Governments across the world are cracking down on content and yet community run websites are starting to thrive more and more.

Tumblr once upon a time was what Pillowfort is today, but this time, let’s make sure Pillowfort can stay independent from mega corporations.

yes this

most of the criticism i’ve seen of pf so far ultimately come back to this

is it an alright platform with a good community? yes. does it have a lot of potential? yes. does it have a lot of problems still being worked out? yes.  are the staff open and responsive? absolutely. do i recommend it? yes, if you’re willing to live in a house while it’s being built.

but it’s not a ready-made replacement for tumblr.  set your expectations accordingly.

YES THIS

One of the great things about PF is that the staff is listening to the userbase. They want to know what we want and need. We got features like mutuals-only post locking and readmores months before they were originally slated to roll out, just because so many people not only wanted them but said that those were at the top of their wish lists. Yes, that’s right, they actually listened to user feedback – solicited it, even, with surveys! – and then changed their plans based on that feedback. More than once.

There are a lot of cool features that are planned but not yet implemented. There are a lot of bugs. But one of the things that’s been most fun about watching this site grow (I’ve been on there since February) is the moment every few weeks when BAM! we get a major feature we’ve been waiting for, or a major bug magically disappears.

If you don’t want to deal with bugs and lack of features, that’s fine, totally understandable, but don’t shit on the site just yet. None of us knows for sure what it’s going to look like a year from now. Once it’s out of beta and had a chance to work through the inevitable growing pains that will come after that, if you still think it’s going about things all wrong, by all means, warn people away from it.

But right now, if you’re not sure about some of it but are at all curious to see how it turns out, come join us and let Staff know about your concerns. Strike up conversations about the features you think are most important. You have the chance to influence the shape of this site in a way that is rare, and that Tumblr has never given a shit about.

Just don’t go into this kitchen expecting a cake. Because what you’re going to get is a bunch of ingredients and a lady working on mixing them while the oven’s not even done preheating yet. You can either get mad that there’s no cake yet, and go around telling everyone what a shitty baker she is, or you can let her know what flavor frosting you want.

me every month: has my period AGAIN

me every month:

Welllllllllllllll periods suck(trust me, I was emotionally close with a woman, in fact close enough to feel her goddamn periods. Fuck I fucking hated it, men, don’t get that attached. Be supportive, feed her ice cream and whatever else she asks for, but don’t get attached enough to feel them. It’s not worth it.

Anyway, I hate to be callous but that’s just your body telling you to hurry up and get pregnant. Of course birth control also makes them not as bad, depending on what kind. Of course you find out that there’s more kinds of birth control than there are types of oil, which is a pain. There are more period blood containment things(yes, tht includes tampons, pads, cups, etc.) than there are types of oil according to my dad who actually knows his shit about the oil, saying there’s like 4 types.(Yes, talking about motor oil here)

So ladies, find what’s right for you. Ask a doctor. Test some different period things out. It’s for your own good

What the FUCK are you talking about

“periods suck, trust me I dated a woman once”

I’M
